Night Face

The arch nemesis of Daylight/Day-Knight, Dr. Ziegmeyer is a severely disturbed maniac brought about from a past involving the mistreatment and murder of his only daughter by the same men who imprisoned him. The guilt of not being able to find a cure for his daughter Emma's mental illness haunts him even after death but now, his only drive is to find a method that eliminates all evil from a persons mind.

Dr. Ziegmeyer became Nightface after a council of psychologists seized his manor with plans to transform it into an insane asylum to clean up the streets of Valley Vista City that at the time (1920's) was crawling with the insane and drug addicted. The psychologists used Dr. Ziegmeyer's notes and recordings of his unsuccessful treatment sessions with his daughter Emma to convict him of child abuse and mistreatment which landed him in prison for three years. During this time, his manor was remodeled into an insane asylum as intended, and patients were brought in to be tortured, experimented on, and abused. Ziegmeyer's lawyer, Pal David, took it upon himself to investigate the asylum and record all the horrors that were going on there. He returns to Ziegmeyer with terrible news about the fate of his daughter at the hands of the evil men running the asylum. Ziegmeyer couldn't bear the news, not behind prison bars, and told Pal to take down that asylum by whatever means necessary. Pal went off and showed the court and police his evidence of the evil that was going on in the asylum and within a week, the asylum was shut down and not long after that, Ziegmeyer was freed.

However, Ziegmeyer was far from well having spent all that time in there and learning of the mistreatment of his daughter and countless other innocent people who needed help, not torture and abuse. Ziegmeyer returned to his former manor, dug up the body of his daughter who received a nameless gravestone, and pledged to her that he would find a cure for all evil. That same night, Ziegmeyer dressed in tattered nurse gown linens, blood stained bed sheets, and a mask made from the hides of dead cats and dogs laying around the premises of the asylum, and a wool sack, went off to the homes of each psychologist. He broke in to each home and murdered every inhabitant with a sickle but made sure to decapitate the heads of the psychologists themselves and dig out their hearts, stuff their heads and hearts into the sack, and make his way back to the abandoned asylum.

In what used to be his research lab, Night face carved open each head of the psychologist and dissected each brain, working tirelessly to find the physical origin and root of their evil so that he may develop a cure.

Over ninety years later, and Night face is still working to find that cure, hidden deep within his former manor, forever to be known as, The Ziegmeyer Insane Asylum.

Nightface is accompanied by living corpses who wander the asylum at night and are known as "The Undead Patients". Each undead patient, including Nightface, seem to be kept alive by a mysterious beating heart, about the size of a small car, located under the asylum, and a large, operating brain embedded into the ceiling of the wardens office, or what used to be Ziegmeyer's personal office. The Unheart and the Inbrain are an amalgamation of all the brains and hearts that Ziegmeyer had retrieved from heads of the psychologists  and other people of Vista Valley City that he deemed were suffering from evil. How these things came to be is a mystery...

Nightface believes that the city of Valley Vista would be so much more peaceful if everyone in it were dead. Perhaps living, but dead and under his command, like the undead patients that walk the asylum.
